The Toasted Marshmallow is truly located in the heart of it all, yet far enough away to still be nestled deep in the serene countryside.
You can visit the goats or walk the trails on the back side of the property but please stay out of the barns for safety purposes.
Other things to note
Please enjoy our dogs. They are chubby and looking for a snack, but we are a working farm. They have a job, they protect the goats. They are well mannered and if you tell them to go away they will.
Hocking Hills Cabin: The Toasted Marshmallow
2 guests – 1 bedroom – 1 bed – 1 bath
Just 5 miles from Lake Hope State Park in Vinton County, Ohio sits a small historic farm settled over two hundred years ago. For 3 generations the farm operated as a Grade A milk farm with a max of 50 head of cattle. Today we want to share our beautiful part of the country with you. In October of 2019 the farm became a registered as a Certified Tree Farm with American Tree Farm System. It’s home to various species of hardwoods.
The Toasted Marshmallow is a perfect staycation/vacation place, welcoming guests to stay on a 62 acre tree farm with six Nigerian dwarf goats and three chubby dogs. The farm has recently been quoted by Vinton Soil Water Conservation as a wildlife mecca, perfect for anyone looking to reconnect with nature & relax.
You can see various species of birds, hawks, owls, deer, wild turkeys, geese & occasional bobcat and if you go out at night you might hear the cries of the coyotes. We’ve also spotted a bald eagle more than once!
****We have a enhanced cleaning/disinfecting routine between stays and follow CDC guideline.*****
The Toasted Marshmallow has a private entrance with personal parking space and digital keypad entrance. There is room for 2 cars. The tiny house has huge windows that capture exactly what we want to share with you…. The views ! The morning sunrise comes in the living room and the evening sunset is best seen from the wrap around deck.
The kitchen and dining area is filled with basic kitchen utensils, silverware, mugs and plates, wine glasses (incl. corkscrew), coffee maker AND Keurig, toaster oven, microwave, fridge & a two burner stove. Dish soap and kitchen towels are also provided.
The bedroom has one queen size bed with a restful memory foam cooling gel mattress. The huge windows capture the view even in adverse weather.
Our guests can make themselves at home, staying 100% private. You are welcome to come join us & visit the goats behind the house (for safety purposes, we ask you stay out of the barns).
Since we are a working farm, there may be occasional farm equipment noises and some activity around the property, especially during spring with mowers etc. Equipment will never be running before the dew is dry, so late morning.
On a clear night The Toasted Marshmallow is a quiet retreat under an amazing starry sky perfect roasting marshmallows. Relax with drinks while listening to a symphony of spring peepers, birds and the occasional Whip-poor-will. We have plenty of firewood on hand for the fire ring.
Vinton County is our home & we love our local village, the closeness to all trails in Hocking Hills & Lake Hope State Parks. In the warmer months, kayaking, paddle boarding, and pontooning on Lake Hope make for a great afternoon with minimal people as we are incredibly secluded.
Guests who are interested in the local culture can also learn about the coal mining history, visit Lake Hope Furnace, Zaleski State Forest and go GHOST HUNTING at Moonville Tunnel.
Local festivals keep guests entertained, such as the Wild Turkey Festival the first weekend in May, Midnight at Moonville near Halloween and Roar Day at Lake Hope in October. The last full week of July is my personal favorite, the Vinton County Fair as we are big supporters of 4H.
Outdoor activities like visiting waterfalls and caves, zip-lining, horseback riding, swimming in the lakes, and backpacking can all be found at the state parks.
We are a 10 min drive from McArthur and 20 min from Old Man’s Cave.
For those who enjoy spa and massage treatments, we have the Spa at Ash Cave or at the Inn at Cedar Falls. If you’re in the mood for a tattoo, McArthur has a licensed tattoo artist available by appt only. Great yoga classes are offered in Athens. Home of the Ohio University if you’re looking to party haha.
If the weather makes you stay indoors, towns like Athens, Nelsonville and Chillicothe offer movie theaters, bowling and ice skating, besides many bars, boutiques and coffee shops.
